For sale is a 4x8 CNC machine that has been highly modified. While it make look like a ShopBot, the only thing left from them is the metal frame bits. The entire machine has been upgraded from top to bottom with high performance parts. Not a single wire or sensor is leftover. All work has been done in the last 3-4 years. The goal with this build was speed and reliability. This machine was used to cut wood and plastic in production runs and prototypes. It comes with a hugely powerful Acorn Control system. It features a 10 tool changer. The machine has always been in a climate controlled space and is still under power and in operation.

This machine will outperform the highest end ShopBot machines (and other similar ones of its class) due to the hugely powerful control system. This system offers gobs of torque and speed. That, coupled with the robust and reliable Acorn system results in a machine that you can depend on all day every day. Maintenance is far easier (and cheaper!) due to using non proprietary parts throughout the entire system.

This is a fully turn key, tuned and ready to run setup. If you’re looking to do cabinetry, prototypes, production runs, or anything that requires power, speed and reliability you’ve found your machine.

Specs:

Frame: ShopBot PRS 4x8 with 6” Z axis

Max cutting dimensions 97” x 49” 6” on Z (although you can squeak out a little extra if you need)

Speeds: Jog speed 1200 IN/Min (can be pushed higher, but why?)

Cutting: Easily can cut plywood single pass at 350 IN/Min. 1/2 HDPE can be cut easily at 250 IN/Min in two passes leaving an excellent finish

Spindle: S30C 2.2KW 24,000 RPM ATC with 10 tool rack

-Has automated dust shoe removal system (see video below)

-Regulated and dried air supplies draw bar, tool blast and case pressurization. Air pressure is monitored by Acorn control

-Automated “Particle Accelerator” dust shoe system that docks the shoe during tool changes

-Includes spring loaded pressure foot for cutting thin materials (see pictures below)

-4 valve air solenoid system on spindle (1 for case pressure, 1 for draw bar, 1 for air blast and 1 extra. Could be used for coolant)

-Braking resistor for fast starts and stops (makes tool changes fast)

-Integrated speed monitoring (so the control will NEVER try to change a spinning tool)

-Spindle stall detect (machine will E Stop if the spindle fails or stalls in any way)

-SPARE spindle! Yes, I have a backup S30 ATC spindle that goes with the machine too

Control System:

Centroid Acorn Control System. Rock solid reliable performance. Replaced original SB3 control system due to comms and reliability issues.

-Pro Centroid license (includes probing)

-Digital auto squaring. This machine upon homing will digitally square the gantry

-Automated tool measurement (tools can be measured one at a time, or all at once)

-Automated homing

-Automated Error checking on tool change. (prevents lost position from damaging tools)

-Misc custom scripts including: Park, Zero Z, Shoe Learn, Shoe Remove, Shoe Dock, Warmup, etc.

-Windows 10 tower PC with wireless keyboard and mouse

-Proximity sensors on every axis (two on X) one on the dust shoe and one on the fixed tool measure plate

-Integrated LED on gantry that reflects machine state

-Wireless pendant with snappy jogging on all axes and custom macros

-Digital Probing suite with ruby tipped Drew Tronics probe

-Special probing routine to pick up and drop off the probe using the tool changer

-Table is constructed out of a MEDEX base layer, MEDEX Plenum and an LDF top. You get great airflow through the top layer for maximum suction.
